Simple is powerful. Simple is easy to comprehend. However, simple is not always easy. Thousands of people have written about success. I want to give you my principles of success that have guided me to create progress in my life. Much of my understanding of success comes from working with ambitious leaders who set out to do impossible things. My principles of success are not your usual -- put your head down and work hard. I know that works at some level. But looking at highly successful leaders that I see make changes, they go they're a series of steps that I want to share with you. The principles of success and significance are simple to understand, and the work to make them work for you requires you to understand the nuance of growth.

Attracting top talent requires leaders to be highly intentional in how they treat the culture. Nothing will de-motivate a great employee faster than tolerating a bad employee. When leaders don’t deal with a toxic employee, it tears down to trust and causing uncertainty in the great employees. Tolerating a bad employee often comes down to not confronting their behaviors soon enough. For some CEOs, it is making a conscious choice that a bad employee is too valuable in their work or results to “rock the boat.” Let me share some wisdom about tolerating a bad employee from my years of coaching founders of fast-growth companies. Letting lousy employees get away with things is a quick way to crush the motivation of the other employees.

Delegating the right way is a constant challenge. I see leaders that try to support their people in delegation that believe they have to give the step-by-step to ensure clarity. This may be the case for new employees or new areas that an employee is asked to get involved. However, step-by-step delegation is rarely the best way to delegate. Proper delegate is about painting a clear outcome for the project. This is a shift for many people, but share with your employee the goal you want with this delegation. Give them a vivid view of the vision you see for this project -- what it will look like when done. You also want to share why you are delegating this work to them -- share with them their skill set or mindset that made you select them. You also want to give the purpose of doing this project. When you delegate the purpose, you allow the person to see how this task or project fits into the growth plans. Delegating outcomes is better than delegating step-by-step.

You get what you tolerate. If you have an employee that encounters a challenge at work, you want to help them get unstuck. Removing the obstacle is an essential part of leadership. Years of working with very successful leaders and entrepreneurs have allowed me to see what works for extraordinary results. Today, I will give you the extremely simple formula that drives successful people. You can learn what is missing if you keep working toward a goal that is evading you. Sometimes it is just taking longer than you wanted. This formula for extraordinary results will give you the power to harness something exceptional. I used to struggle with big goals, and sometimes those goals would drain energy from me because I would look at them and know that I was not making the progress I wanted. I made a discovery ten years ago when I took the training to become a certified coach. In my coaching training, we looked at the formula I am going to share with you. I have made some changes to the recipe over the years to simplify it and ensure you don’t get lost in achieving extraordinary results. This is the PAR formula. It has three pieces. In this video, I walk you through it. Many people get stuck on one part of this formula. It only takes a few minutes for me to help you leverage the PAR formula to create extraordinary results. Send me a DM if you want me to walk you through making this really work for you.

Marc had many other successes besides Netflix too. He is an investor and mentor to many legendary companies. He is also the host of a new podcast called That Will Never Work. One of the biggest challenges that CEOs face when it comes to optimizing their time is creating white space in their calendar. It seems that no matter what they do, they have people that want to fill in any available time on their calendar with a meeting. Creating white space is really about making time to think. Scheduling back-to-back meeting may seem productive, but the CEO that lacks time to think is likely to miss opportunities. Today's interview is with Justin Bakes, co-founder of Forward Financing. This company was #404 out of 5000 in the 2018 Inc List. Justin shares his top strategy for optimizing his time, which is improving his team meetings' flow. We look at the updates he has made to his meeting framework that has expanded his leadership capabilities. Justin also agreed to share the coaching conversation we held that is all about creating white space. This is not in-depth coaching, but it will give you insight into the re-framing challenges of creating white space.

Company growth is not just one thing. It takes the right product/service, the right timing, and the right people. It also takes the right systems. I can attest that systems grow your business. I would not have a podcast today without the right systems that my team executes weekly to keep the content following. Today's guest is Trent Dyrsmid, CEO and host at Bright Ideas. Trent has been so successful in developing systems that he has another company Maverick Media Ventures, that made the 2019 Inc 5000 List at #254. Trent and I look at the power of systems to grow your business. We look at SOPs and how he aligns his team with them.

Leadership is a never-ending process if you do it right. There is always another level of growth for those that you lead. I talked to a client the other day about the quote that starts, "teaching a man to fish." Many believe that leadership is about serving your people. I agree. However, some don't understand that it is not about telling them what to do, but leadership is about leading them to figure it out. The Chinese proverb about giving a man a fish vs. teaching him to fish is a powerful way to look at leadership. In this short video, you will see what I mean. Here is to you teaching a man to fish in your role as a leader.

Imagine the power of visionary leadership that connects people and aligns the work to a robust culture. It is financial health, strong employee experience, and your own peace of mind. The vision of culture is not something we take time to consider, given the need for focus on today's issues. I invite you to think about your vision of culture as the company grows and evolves. This is an essential part of your success as a leader sees the future and aligns resources to what is most important. The vision of culture is complex and yet simple too.
